ITOKO is a silk manufacturer of white fabrics for kimono founded in
1931. Since its establishment, we have received orders as ITOKO white
fabrics for Japanese silk, as well as post-dyed fabrics for the Imperial
Household. We are also particular about cocoons, the raw material of
silk, and in 1996, we started “Matsuokahime,” Japan’s first unified
brand from cocoons and raw silk to white fabrics. It is said that pure
domestic silk accounts for less than 0.5% of the total amount of silk
distributed in Japan. In 2012, we started to apply silk fabrics to
interior materials, and are developing an interior decoration business
called “Silk Glass,” which is an interior material made of silk enclosed
in glass. Focusing on the fact that the protein composition of silk is
close to that of our skin and has a high affinity with humans, and that
it is biodegradable and does not place a burden on the environment, we
began developing silk products for daily life in 2021. The new brand
“Hime+” announced in 2022 is the industry’s first washable silk made of
only natural raw materials, using pure domestic “Matsuokahime” thread as
covering thread. We will continue to protect the foundation of
traditional industries, discover further possibilities of sustainable
material silk, and promote Japanese craftsmanship. We support the
culture of silk, a blessing from heaven, and aim to create a new future
where we can live in harmony with nature.
